Great Character & Relationships With Heretics

Al-Imām al-Rabbani Mujaddid al-Alf al-Thani Shaykh Aḥmad al-Sirhindi ‘alayhir Raḥmah writes:

Allāh ﷻ said to His Beloved ﷺ: “And be harsh with the kuffār” As the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ has been described as having great character, it is understood by the command to be harsh that to be harsh with kuffār is part of great character.

The enemies of Allāh ﷻ must be kept away like dogs. Friendship and affection for them takes one to enmity of Allāh ﷻ and the Messenger ﷺ. [By virtue of his Kalimah and his Ṣalah] one thinks he is a Muslim and he has faith in Allāh ﷻ and His Messenger ﷺ [and one forms friendship and relationship with him] yet one does not know that such despicable behaviour ruins one’s Islām. We seek refuge in Allāh. Read more…

Of the free men, the first person to accept Islām was Sayyidunā Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu. The first woman to bring faith in the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was Sayyidatunā Khadījah RadiyAllahu ‘Anha. The first child was Sayyidunā ʿAlī RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu; the first from slaves was Sayyidunā Bilāl RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu; and Sayyidunā Zayd ibn Ḥārithah RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu was the first from the freed slaves. Sayyidunā ʿUthmān al-Ghanī RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu, Sayyidunā Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqās RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu, Sayyidunā Ṭalḥah RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu, Sayyidunā Zubayr RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu and Sayyidunā ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu then accepted Islām. Open Propagation of Islām & the Islām of Sayyidunā Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq RadiyAllahu ‘Anhu

Initially, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ invited people to Islām discreetly. Then the āyah فَاصدَع بِمَا تُؤمَر was revealed, in which there is the command of Allāh ﷻ: “O Beloved, that with which you have been commanded, inform it publicly.” Thus, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ began preaching Islām and denouncing idol-worship openly. When the kuffār heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ denouncing idols, they became arch enemies of the Muslims and began persecuting them.

[رواه احمد]

Sayyidunā ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah RadiyAllāhu ʿAnhu [1] narrates:

I presented myself in the court of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and I asked, “O Messenger of Allāh, who is with you in Islām?” He ﷺ replied, “One free man and one slave.” [2] I asked, “What is Islām?” [3] He ﷺ said, “To speak good and to feed food.” [4] I asked, “What is Īmān?” [5] He ﷺ answered, “Patience and generosity.” [6] I asked, “Which Islām is the best?” He ﷺ replied, “He from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe.” I asked, “Which Īmān is the best?” He ﷺ said, “Good manners.” [7] I asked, “Which Ṣalāh is the best?” [8] He ﷺ replied, “Prolonging of the qiyām (the standing position).” [9] I asked, “Which Hijrah (emigration) is the best?” [10] He ﷺ said, “Leaving that which your Lord dislikes.” [11] I asked, “Which Jihād is the best?” He ﷺ replied, “The one where the legs of his horse are cut and his blood is shed.” [12] I asked, “Which time is the best? [13] He ﷺ replied, “The middle of the last part of the night.” [14] – Aḥmad

The Opening of the Blessed Chest

When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ became able to walk and he ﷺ had reached the age of two years, he ﷺ began to graze animals. One day, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ had gone out to rear the animals when two angels came and laid him ﷺ on his back. They opened his blessed chest down to the navel and took out his blessed heart.  They then washed it and filled it with SakīnahSakīnah was something similar to ground medicine, from the angelic realm. The two angels placed the blessed heart back into the chest and sealed it. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ felt no pain whatsoever during this. However, seeing this, the son of Sayyidatunā Ḥalīmah radiyAllahu ‘Anha became terrified and ran back to his mother. He said to her, “Two men have torn the chest of our Makkan brother.” Sayyidatunā Ḥalīmah rushed to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and saw that he ﷺ was sitting and his blessed face had become slightly pale. She asked, “What has happened?” The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ then recounted the entire incident. Sayyidatunā Ḥalīmah returned with him ﷺ to their home, however, she had become worried by this and decided to return him ﷺ to his mother in Makkah al-Muʿaẓẓamah.
