It is narrated from Sayyidunā ‘Umar [1] ibn al-Khattāb RadiyAllāhu ‘Anhu, he states that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Actions are upon their intentions [2]. And for every person is that which he has intended [3]. Thus, whoever’s migration is towards Allāh and His Messenger, then his migration is indeed towards Allāh and His Messenger [4]. And whoever’s migration is for obtaining the dunya or to marry a woman [5], his migration will be towards that for which he has migrated.” [6] [Bukhari & Muslim]

1. His name is ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb ibn Nufayl. His kuniyah (agnomen) is Abū Hafs, laqab (appellation) al-Fāruq al-A’zam, title Amīr al-Mu’minīn (Leader of the Believers). He is an ‘Adawī Qurayshī, and [his genealogy] meets the genealogy of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ at Ka’b ibn Luwayy. His merits and virtues are uncountable. He is an eminent Sahābī (companion) and accepted Islām very early. His acceptance made him the 40th Muslim. The Angels rejoiced in celebration of his acceptance of Islām, and this Āyah was revealed:

O Beloved Prophet, Allāh is sufficient for you and for all the Muslims who follow you. [8:64]
